Miami tarpon fishing trips
It is Tarpon time, The most exciting time of the year for fishing in south Florida is here. Tarpon was the main target of most of my Everglades trips during February and March so far. The fish were around in big numbers but there were some very windy days in February that made fishing challenging. The fish were still there despite the wind, as the water temperatures were at their comfort zone. However, it was hard to spot them due to the wind and murky water.
All the interior bays of flamingo as well as banks, edges, beaches and river mouths along the west coast have been holding good numbers of tarpon. These fish have been hitting plugs and soft plastics very well.
Flyfishing has been productive when the wind is down and we are able to spot the fish gulping air (AKA rolling), laying up, free jumping or crashing bait. In addition to Tarpon, Some nice trout are being caught inside the creeks with the incoming tides. I have been catching them mainly with a jig tipped with gulp shrimp or diving plugs.
I haven’t spent a lot of time snook fishing but a few have been caught in between tarpon fishing plugging shorelines with mirrodines and swimming baits. Tripletail has been another fish we’ve been spotting and catching while tarpon fishing along the west coast. The markers and crab traps have been holding good numbers of them when the weather has been calm enough to venture out in the gulf after them.
Miami tarpon fishing trips for the spring
Spring is almost here and with it, my favorite time of the year: The tarpon migration . I’ll be mainly chasing the silver king in the Florida keys with fly anglers but I still do some crabs and mullet trips in between. Still have a few days in May and some more towards the end of June. Give me a call and I’ll be happy to show you the absolute best tarpon fishing experience.
